Amanda Bossard was just out of high school when she started her studies in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Bossard began her professional career in the commercial seafood industry in 1999 when she began working aboard the F/V Sunset the 65' halibut schooner that has been a salmon tender for Murat Aritan, a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan have been married since 1993 and are working together to claim their place in their business. Both are advocates of conservation and maximizing the use of renewable resources in the fishing industry. In 2007, now a mother of two young children Bella age three as well as Andre 1 Bossard then returning to living in Philadelphia and opened an online direct market wholesale distributor of seafood called Otolith. The couple is separated by five months, plus more to allow her to be focused on her goals in terms of finances and the environment. Bossard as well as Isabella Andre and Isabella Andre (ages 12, 10 respectively) return each year, starting in July 2016 in Southeast Alaska for the summer catch of salmon wild. A small 42-salmon troller, using hooks and line to capture their salmon, they are joined by Aritan to work for the duration of two months selling to local processors. They also continue to increase their direct market seafood offerings sold by Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way of purchasing the custom processing capabilities of small processors to create unique wild seafood products that reflect their dedication to quality and the environment.
